How the Carpet Installation Process Works

Each of our projects follows a structured process to help ensure the carpet is properly fitted and performs well over time.
Step 1: Consultation and Measurement
Every project starts with a conversation. You can visit our showroom at 6100 E Independence Blvd in Charlotte or reach out online. Our flooring consultants, many of whom have been with Carpet Discount Warehouse for years, will walk through your space type, timeline, and goals before anything is measured or ordered. Measurements are taken or verified to confirm material quantities and layout planning.
Step 2: Subfloor Check
Before any carpet goes down, we inspect the subfloor to detect and address any unevenness, damage, or debris that could affect the finished result. If our team detects any issues, we will let you know. Any repairs must be made before our team can proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Layout Planning and Seam Placement
Our installers plan the layout before cutting begins. Seam placement is carefully considered to minimize visibility and align with the room’s dimensions and natural traffic flow.
Step 4: Padding Installation
Carpet padding is installed before the carpet itself. The right padding improves comfort underfoot, supports the carpet’s structure, and helps extend the flooring's overall lifespan. The padding type is matched to the selected carpet and the space's demands.
Step 5: Carpet Installation and Stretching
We cut, position, and secure the carpet throughout the space. Power stretching is used to pull the carpet taut and prevent buckling, rippling, or premature wear. Proper stretching is a technical requirement that significantly affects how the carpet holds up over time and is a standard part of every installation we coordinate.
Our installation partners have been with us for more than 25 years, so when they arrive at your home or commercial space in Charlotte, they bring a level of consistency that a rotating crew cannot.
Step 6: Finishing and Cleanup
Edges are trimmed, transitions between flooring types are finished, and doorways are addressed so all areas meet cleanly. Once installation is complete, the work area is cleaned and left ready for everyday use.
